Hi Ladies!

March is sure a busy month for the Ladies’ Club! . Between hosting two “big time” tournaments and running two (2) General Meetings,  it is also ushering in many changes both on and off the course.

*  We will officially be going online for tee time reservation.  “Foretees” will be operational to the membership at large within the next couple of weeks. For us, that means no more sign up sheets in the locker room.! This system has been in effect in many other clubs for over a year and works beautifully and efficiently.   “How to” procedures will be posted and communicated in a step by step manner, so not to worry!

* The new Scorecards are being finalized by the Golf Committee.   A revised format along with our new  handicap hole allocations will be implemented.   The new cards should be ready by the first of April.

* As noted in the Weekly Wire, rakes are now to be placed outside of the bunkers.

* For those of you who plan ahead, please note that the May Guest Day has been moved from the 22nd to the 15th.

* Tuesday tee times for 9-Holers will be moved to 9:30-10:00 ( see Katherine’s article); that means expanded slots available for 18 holers.

Don’t forget!  We have two (2) General Meetings this month!  Along with updated info on the comings and goings of the Club, the March 6th  meeting will crown the winner of The President’s Cup.  March 27th will name the winners in the Member-Member.  The “Big Sister” program will also be reinstated, so be ready to sign up and help out!  Remember, there will be no General Meeting in April due to course closure....a great reason to  sign up for the Ladies’ Getaway at Rancho Bernardo on April 7-8.    It is always a blast!!  That does it for this month!  Relax and enjoy!

~ PLAYDAYS ~
JUDY DAVIS & KATHY LYONS

We have very exciting news regarding our new system for tee times.  At some point in March, Marbella will implement the ForeTees Program for securing tee times.  When the program is in place for members to use, the Pro Shop will provide internet training for anyone who is interested.  If you do not have Internet access, you can make tee times by calling or visiting the Pro Shop to obtain a tee time.    Detailed information and instructions will be available once the on-line date has been finalized for usage by members.

Please remember, if you play Thursday Play Day (even if you withdraw from the Play Day Game) you are NOT eligible for scrip on Saturday Play Day.

As a reminder, there are NO Play Day Games during our Member/Member Eclectic Tournament.

Ladies…go out and have fun!!!!  For us, the hardest part of playing golf has always been hitting the “ball”.  Hit ‘um straight!

Special thanks to our hostesses last month,  Ingrid Reuland, Toni Taylor, and Nancy Tall.

NINE-HOLERS

9-Holers at Lunch
9-holersfeb2608.jpg
L to R: Julie Roth, Paula Staff, Carol Grisanti and Elizabeth Thiergartner

We have a lot of news:  Congratulations to Sue Matson who graduated to the 18-Holers!  Please invite her to join in 18-Holers activities.  We also have four new 9-Holers:  Himanshu Bhatia, Karen Murphy, Nancy Vanderwall and Kim Canetti.  A “Warm Welcome” to all of you! I can give a big  thank you to Carolyn McGuire and Maria Barger for being stand-in 9-Hole Chairman for the February General Meeting Day and the February 12 Play Day.

We are changing our Tuesday Play Day time table.  Our day begins at 8:30 am (instead of 8:00 am) for our discussions on Rules/Etiquette/etc in the Ladies Locker Room.  Then we begin teeing off for 9-Holes of play starting at 9:30 am (instead of 9:00 am) followed by lunch.  This change makes it easier for all of us to start the day unfrazzled,  which we think is a bonus.  Our General Meeting Day stays the same starting with the clinic at 9:00 am with a Pro followed by 9-Holes of golf starting at 10:00 am, then lunch.  March 6 is the next General Meeting Day.

Finally, the 9-Holers will be having a parallel Member/Member Tournament:  Round 1 on March 18 and Round 2 on March 27, the General Meeting Day.  So if you 9-Holers are interested, there will be a sign-up sheet in the Ladies’ Locker Room near the 18-Holer Member/Member sign up sheet.  Call me at 949-248-1456 if you want to participate or e-mail at kszem@earthlink.net.

COUPLES EVENTS - BIT O BLARNEY

Marbella's famous "Bit O Blarney" tournament is scheduled for Saturday, March 15th.  Try your Irish luck and win your very own Pot of Gold.  There will be two flights, a member/member flight and a member/guest flight.  The fun begins with a 1:00pm shotgun followed by celebratory drinks, a true Irish feast, awards, and dancing.

Please, come join in the fun.  You can sign up with another couple from our club, or enjoy a real bargain and invite a guest couple.  Sign up in the Pro Shop TODAY.  The cost is $95 per couple plus cart.  You may just find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

If you have any questions, or need some persuading, contact Linda Travis or Linda Kennard.

 GUEST DAYS

~ DANI RATKELIS ~

Mark your calendars for our next Guest Day on April 17th!

RULES
~ GEORGIANNA HALES ~

Obstructions and Impediments:
You probably know that, except on the green, you cannot lift or cause your ball to move while moving loose impediments.  It is a one stroke penalty if you do, and the ball must be replaced  (Rule 18-2a).  However, if your ball comes to rest next to or on a movable obstruction, you can remove the item.  If the ball moves, you must replace it without penalty (Rule 24-1).

DEFINITION:
Loose Impediments:
"Loose Impediments" are natural objects including:

  • stones, leaves, twigs, branches and the like
  • dung
  • worms, insects, and the like, and the casts and heaps made by them, provided they are not:
  • fixed or growing
  • solidly embedded, or
  • adhering to the ball.

Sand and loose soil are loose impediments on the putting green, but not elsewhere.

Snow and natural ice, other than frost, are either casual water or loose impediments, at the option of the player.

Dew and frost are not loose impediments.

Obstructions:
An "obstruction" is anything artificial, including the artificial surfaces and sides of roads and paths and manufactured ice, except:

  1. Objects defining out of bounds, such as walls, fences, stakes, and railings;
  2. Any part of an immovable artificial object that is out of bounds; and
  3. Any construction declared by the Committee to be an integral part of the course.

Any obstruction is a movable obstruction if it may be moved without unreasonable effort, without unduly delaying play and without causing damage.  Otherwise, it is an immovable obstruction.

Note:

The Committee may make a Local Rule declaring a movable obstruction to be an immovable obstruction.

How many of you use the Ladies’ Library?  Take a moment to e-mail the answer to me: marduke762@cox.net.  Do you know that there are, as of this writing, 8 books on tapes on our shelves good for those long car rides?  Do you know that Nora Roberts also writes under the name of JD Robb? We seem to get a lot of her works.   Have you read all of James Patterson’s books (we presently have 5 on the shelves)?  We also have books by Debbie Macomber, Mary Higgins Clark, Patricia Cornwell, and Sue Grafton’s alphabet series (we have ‘R’ and ‘S’), plus many other good writers.  Make use of the Library and bring your current best sellers for others to read.  Thanks for sharing.

Exciting news from Maxene Weinberg!   " I made a Hole in One on Saturday, 2-16, at the Gary Player Course, of The Westin Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage.  Hole #15, Par 3, 86 yards, 9 iron."

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with one of our new members, Barbara Behrens, and her family. Her husband, John passed away on February 2nd.

"Two Up” for Jill Blurton-Jones:  Our Tournament Co-Chair has two new grandkids extending their score to seven. Their daughter delivered a little baby girl on February 24th.  Annabel weighed in at 7 lbs13 ounces, and was 21" long. A day later, their son and daughter-in-law had a little boy.  Oliver weighed in at 6lbs10 ounces, and was 19 1/4"long.  Their son Laddy is still in Moscow playing hockey but the parents and grandparents here are slightly deprived of sleep, but all very excited!

Jean Kelly got her second Hole in One: Saturday, February 23rd, Marbella's #4, Red Tees, 142 yards, using a Callaway Hybrid #5
